About Deb

Born and raised in Vancouver, Washington, Deb Cushman spent her early years reading, listening to good stories, and writing her own. While she was growing up, she had lots of encouragement from her teachers, which allowed her to write, produce, and direct a historical play in the third grade. In the sixth grade, she amused her classmates with her imaginative spelling-word stories (which often included commercial breaks and songs.)

Deb married and raised three sons. After working in libraries for sixteen years, she established a library for a public school for the arts. Yet, she could not escape the allure of storytelling and began studying to become a novelist.

She's had several short stories published in national children's magazines and wrote a humor column for a national health and fitness newsletter.

Deb's current passion is writing picture books and middle grade novels.
